A newly-released impeachment inquiry report has claimed Donald Trump used his office to ‘solicit foreign interference on his behalf in the 2020 election.’
The document, released by the US Intelligence Committee Tuesday, claims the president ‘subverted US foreign policy towards Ukraine and undermined (US) national security) in a bid to dig dirt on potential 2020 rival Joe Biden.
Trump is accused of dangling a coveted White House invitation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in return for a probe into Joe Biden’s son Hunter.
Hunter Biden has faced questions over his well-paid role on the board of Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma.
Trump is also accused of withholding $400million in defense aid from Ukraine until its prosecutors began to probe Hunter Biden.
He is also said to have demanded that Ukrainian investigators probe disproved conspiracy theories that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 US presidential election which Trump won.
Those lies are said to have been peddled by Russian officials to try and deflect from its hackers established meddling in the 2016 campaign.
Both Trump and Hunter Biden deny any wrongdoing.
